Bundesliga preview – Darmstadt vs Koln prediction

Sandro Wagner was rested for last weekend’s game after picking up a knock in training but should be ready to return to the Darmstadt lineup for Friday night’s televised game.  It means coach Dirk Schuster has all his first team regulars available and can go with his preferred first eleven.

Koln have no reported injuries from the match against Mainz. It leaves Slovakian midfielder Dusan Svento the only absentee after he was pulled from the squad the day before last Saturday’s game. Coach Peter Stoger is expected to keep faith with top scorer Anthony Modeste despite a run of six games without a goal.

Possible Line-ups

Darmstadt: 4-4-1-1 formation: Mathenia; Garics, Sulu, Caldibora, Diaz; Heller, Niemeyer, Gondorf, Rausch; Rosenthal; Wagner

Koln: 4-4-2 formation: Horn; Risse, Maroah, Heintz, Hector; Osako, Lehmann, Vogt, Bittencourt; Hosiner, Modeste

Statistics

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Koln have scored an average of 0.7 goals and conceded an average of 1 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Darmstadt’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Koln’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Darmstadt announced their arrival in the top flight with a run of four unbeaten games at the start for the season, but life in the Bundesliga has hit home in recent weeks. Dirk Schuster’s men have picked up one point from the last four games and look to be facing a tough battle for survival.

Koln are looking to consolidate after finishing 12th on their return to the top table last season and this is the type of game Peter Stoger’s side will be expected to pick up points. Koln are undefeated in the last three games (W1, D2, L0) and have some notable successes on the road this season with league wins at Stuttgart (1-3), Schalke (0-3) and Bayer Leverkusen (1-2).

Anthony Modeste’s goals have been a miss for Koln in recent weeks. The Frenchman has opened the scoring five times this season and can get among the goals against a team with only one clean sheet from the last eight games. Either way, Koln have enough cutting edge to take the victory here.
