Premier League preview – West Ham vs West Brom prediction

Pedro Obiang should be available for selection after missing four-weeks with a thigh strain but it’s unlikely Slaven Bilic will see the midfielder as a solution to the current problem at West Ham. The absence of playmaker Dimitri Payet had a big impact on the Hammers’ defeat at Tottenham on Sunday and the Frenchman is not expected to return from an ankle injury until early February. The attacking threat of Enner Valencia will not be an option as the Ecuador international nurses a foot injury sustained earlier this month. Defender James Collins will sit out the final game of his three match ban.

West Brom keeper Ben Forster continues on the road to recovery from the knee injury which has kept him out since March. Chris Brunt  is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season and Tony Pulis will be forced to make changes from the team that beat Arsenal 2-1 last weekend.

Possible Line-ups

West Ham: 4-2-3-1 formation: Adrian; Jenkinson, Tomkins, Reid, Cresswell; Kouyate, Noble; Sakho, Lanzini, Mose; Carroll

West Brom: 4-2-3-1 formation: Myhill; Dawson, Evans, Olsson, McManaman; Fletcher, Yacob; Morrison, Sessegnon, McClean; Rondon

Statistics

  • West Ham have won 4, drawn 3 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • West Brom have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, West Ham have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, West Brom have scored an average of 0.9 goals and conceded an average of 1.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of West Ham’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of West Brom’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

West Ham have returned to earth with bang, picking up one point from the last three games and were torn apart in the 4-1 defeat at White Hart Lane on Sunday. Manager Slaven Bilic will not want a similar performance when his team features for the cameras again on Sunday and the focus in training this week should be on keeping a clean sheet which they’ve not achieved in the last nine games.

West Brom fully deserved the 2-1 victory against title-chasing Arsenal at the Hawthorns on Saturday and made Manchester United work hard for the 2-0 victory at Old Trafford in the previous game. Pulis has put the onus on defence and it has paid off with Albion winning three away games by a 1-0 scoreline –  at Stoke, Aston Villa and Norwich.

West Ham’s two home wins this season came against out-of-form sides although they have managed to avoid defeat in the last four games at Upton Park. West Brom took a point from the last two visits and could do so again but don’t discount the Baggies pinching all three this weekend.
