Premier League side Manchester City entertain French Ligue 1 leaders Monaco in the last 16 of the Champions League this Tuesday evening. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at the Etihad Stadium. Man City come into this match on the back of a disappointing goalless draw away to Huddersfield in the FA Cup. Meanwhile, Monaco were also held, drawing 1-1 away to Bastia in Ligue 1.

Manchester City vs Monaco Preview

Man City will be without both Vincent Kompany and Gabriel Jesus through injury. The injury to Jesus will mean a return to the starting XI for Sergio Aguero who may have a point to prove after being left out in recent weeks. Yaya Toure has been recalled to City’s Champions League squad and is expected to start alongside Fernandinho in midfield.

Monaco have Jemerson suspended for this match, so manager Leonardo Jardim may be forced to play Andrea Raggi alongside Kamil Glik in defence. The former is a slight doubt, as are both Tiemoué Bakayoko and Guido Carrillo while Boschilia is definitely ruled out with a knee problem. Radamel Falcao is the danger man for the visitors.

Monaco 4-4-2 formation: Subasic; Mendy, Raggi, Glik, Sidibe; Lemar, Fabinho, Bakayoko, Silva; Falcao, Germain

Manchester City vs Monaco Prediction

Manchester City may have slipped up at the weekend but have been quietly racking up the wins in the Premier League. The upturn in form has moved the Citizens up to second in the table and within 8 points of leaders Chelsea. They’ve registered four clean sheets on a 6-game unbeaten streak, so come into this match in good heart.

Monaco put the final nail in the coffin for Spurs in the group phase and will fancy their chances of progressing from this tie. Falcao and Co have been tearing it up in Ligue 1 and are pretty much scoring for fun. However, the draw against Bastia will serve as a reminder that there are no gimmes in football and this will be a tough test for the visitors.

I’ve been impressed with Manchester City’s recent form and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain it without Gabriel Jesus. Sergio Aguero will be desperate to get on the scoresheet and that can only be a good thing for the hosts. In spite of recent results, I’m still not entirely convinced by the City back line and can see Monaco nicking what could be a vital away goal.
