City rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid face off in a UEFA Champions League Semi-Final 1st Leg clash on Tuesday night. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid come into this match on the back of a 2-1 home victory over Valencia. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid bounced back from an unlikely defeat against Villarreal by thrashing Las Palmas 0-5 way.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Preview

Real Madrid will be missing Gareth Bale, which should see Isco fielded on the right alongside Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo on the opposite flank. James Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata are other options for Zinedine Zidane. With Pepe out injured and Fábio Coentrão doubtful, Rafael Varane will partner Sergio Ramos in central defence.

Atletico Madrid have a few injuries to contend with. The absence of both Juanfran and Sime Vrsaljko will see Jose Gimenez continue to deputise at right-back. Miguel Ángel Moyá and Augusto Fernández are also in the treatment room while Yannick Carrasco is doubtful with a shoulder injury. Nicolás Gaitán is therefore expected to start on the right wing while Kevin Gameiro and Antoine Griezmann will partner up in attack.

Team Predictions Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid 4-3-3 formation: Navas; Marcelo, Varane, Ramos, Carvajal; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Ronaldo, Benzema, Isco

Atletico Madrid 4-3-3 formation: Oblak; Luis, Savic, Godin, Giminez; Koke, Gabi, Niguez, Gaitan; Gameiro, Griezmann

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

  • Real Madrid have won 7 drawn 1 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Atletico Madrid have won 7 drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 2.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.8 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 9 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid reacted well to losing El Clasico by hammering Deportivo La Coruna 2-6 away from home. The margin of victory was less impressive against Valencia but Los Blancos come into this game looking for a third successive victory. They have a great record against Atletico Madrid in this competition, winning the last three Champions League ties.

Atletico Madrid edged Leicester City to set up this tie and will most likely set up to frustrate the hosts here. A quick glance at their average goals conceded stats suggests that Los Colchoneros will be difficult to break down. Diego Simeone’s men have a point to prove against their city rivals and I expect them to make this a battle.

Although Real Madrid have been involved in mainly high-scoring games, it’s worth bearing in mind that the previous four meetings between these sides at the Bernabeu have produced under 2.5 goals. I’m tipping a draw here, with Atletico gaining an away goals advantage to give them something to protect in the return leg at Vicente Calderon.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction and Preview – 28/05/16 -12:10 read →

Champions League final preview – Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid prediction.

Real Madrid central defender Raphael Varane will miss the Champions League final with a hamstring injury which should see Sergio Ramos and Pepe continue the partnership which denied Manchester City in both legs of the semi-final. Niggles to full-back Alvaro Arbeloa and attacking midfielder James Rodriguez are expected to clear up in time for Saturday’s match but it’s unlikely either player will feature from the start.

The Atletico squad has been given a clean bill of health and Tiago made his first appearance since breaking a shinbone in November when coming off the bench in the final league game of the season. The veteran midfielder is unlikely to start so soon after a long absence and Diego Simeone is expected to name the same side that started the semi-final second leg in Munich. This would mean Jose Gimenez returning to the back four and Stefan Savic dropping to the bench.

Possible Line-ups

Real Madrid 4-3-3 formation: Navas; Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo; Modric, Casemiro, Kroos; Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo

Atletico Madrid 4-4-2 formation: Oblak; Juanfran, Gimenez, Godin, Luis; Saul, Fernadez, Gabi, Koke; Griezmann, Torres

Statistics

  • Real Madrid have won 9 drawn 1 and lost 0 of their last 10 matches
  • Atletico Madrid have won 8 drawn 0 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 2.5 goals and conceded an average of 0.5 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.3 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction

Real Madrid are chasing their 11th European title and have eliminated Roma, Wolfsburg and Manchester City in the knockout phase to reach the final. Zidane’s side was caught off guard in Germany but overcame a 2-0 first leg deficit to beat Wolfsburg 3-2 on aggregate. Real were without Cristiano Ronaldo for the semi-final first leg at Etihad where they showed unusual restraint in the goalless draw against Manchester City. It took an own goal from the visitors to decide who progressed when Real won the return leg 1-0. Atletico are regarded as having one of the best defences in Europe and are out to avenge their cruel defeat in the 2014 Champions League final. Simeone’s men are unbeaten in 10 meetings with their city rivals since losing the final in extra-time and have only conceded one goal in the last five head-to-heads. Atletico knocked out pre-tournament favourites Barcelona in the quarter-finals and qualified for the final by beating Bayern Munich on the away goal rule after the tie finished all square, 2-2 on aggregate. No team is better equipped to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo and co than Atletico Madrid and Simeone's men can get their revenge by winning the Champions League final at San Siro in Milan on Saturday.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction and Preview – 27/02/16 -12:02 read →

La Liga preview – Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid prediction.

Real Madrid are confident that Karim Benzema will be fit for the Madrid derby on Saturday after the French centre-forward missed last weekend’s trip to Malaga with a hip problem. Left-back Marcelo will undergo a fitness test on Friday with Danilo and Nacho on standby should the Brazilian’s shoulder be deemed not strong enough to take part. Raphael Varane has served his suspension and can return to the back four as it is doubtful Pepe can shake off a foot injury. Meanwhile Gareth Bale is not expected to return from his calf injury until next month.

Atletico Madrid central defender Stefan Savic is doubtful after finishing the game with a calf muscle injury in Wednesday’s 0-0 Champions League draw at PSV. Jose Gimenez returns from suspension and can slot into the back four alongside Diego Godin. With Tiago’s continued absence in midfield and Thomas Partey only recently returned to training, Augusto Fernando offers a more defensive option to Saul who could be asked to start on the bench. Left winger Yannick Carrasco is the other likely absentee as he recovers from an ankle sprain which has seen him sidelined for the last two weeks.

Possible Line-ups

Real Madrid 4-3-3 formation: Buffon; Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini; Lichtsteiner, Hernanes, Khedira, Pogba, Sandro; Mandzukic, Dybala

Atletico Madrid 4-4-2 formation: Handanovic; D’Ambrosio, Murillo, Miranda, Telles; Kondogbia, Medel, Melo; Eder, Icardi, Biabiany

Statistics

  • Real Madrid have won 7 drawn 3 and lost 0 of their last 10 matches
  • Atletico Madrid have won 4 drawn 4 and lost 2 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 3.1 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Real Madrid require a win to go above their Madrid neighbours who are one point ahead in second place. Zinedine Zidane remains undefeated as head coach after the 1-1 draw in Malaga last weekend which extended the club’s unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions. Real have won seven consecutive home games in La Liga since losing 4-0 to Barcelona in November and have amassed 37 goals in doing so.

Atletico Madrid have drawn the last two games, at home to Villarreal in La Liga and away to PSV in the Champions League. Diego Simeone’s side has lost one of its last five league games, going down 2-1 against Barcelona in Camp Nou and winning the other four without conceding. Atletico lost 1-0 on their last trip to the Bernabeu, conceding 12 minutes after being reduced to 10 men. They had previously won 1 and drawn 2 of three prior visits.

Atletico have the best defence in La Liga and can make it difficult for Real. This game could go a similar way to the reverse fixture in October which ended 1-1.

Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Prediction and Football Tips -20/04/15 16:13 read →

Champions League football tips – Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid prediction.

The big team news in this match, is the loss of both Luka Modric and Gareth Bale for Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti will have to re-shuffle his midfield area, with the possibility of Asier Illarramendi and Isco coming in to the team. Karim Benzema is also a doubt but should be passed fit, with Fabio Coentrao also trying to prove his fitness to in a bid to replace the suspended Marcelo.

Diego Simeone will be missing Mario Suarez in midfield, who is suspended and may call upon Tiago to replace him. Otherwise, Atletico Madrid have a clean bill of health going in to their biggest match of the season so far.

Probable Line-ups

Real Madrid: 4-4-2 formation: Casillas; Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Coentrao; Kroos, Illarramendi, James, Isco; Ronaldo, Benzema

Atletico Madrid: 4-4-2 formation: Oblak; Siqueira, Godin, Miranda, Juanfran; Koke, Tiago, Gabi, Turan; Griezmann, Mandzukic

    • Real Madrid have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
    • Atletico Madrid have won 5 and drawn 5 of their last 10 matches
    • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Real Madrid have scored an average of 2.4 goals and conceded an average of 1 goal per game
    • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Atletico Madrid have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.4 goals per game
    • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Real Madrid’s previous 10 matches
    • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 2 of Atletico Madrid’s previous 10 matches
    • Atletico Madrid are undefeated in their last 3 visits to the Santiago Bernabeu

The loss of Luka Modric is a huge blow to Real Madrid’s chances of progressing to the semi-finals of the Champions League. The way Modric and Real Madrid have been playing since his return to the team, only goes to show what a big miss he will be. Bale may have come in for criticism from some quarters but without his pace and directness, Real Madrid will miss a key component of their team.

Atletico Madrid are now undefeated in their last 7 matches against Real Madrid and will feel confident travelling to the Bernabeu. Schalke have already shown what can be done against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu this season, although this match should be a much tighter affair.

We say: Draw at 11/4 with Bet365
