Bristol City will be taking on Aston Villa in the Championship on Friday evening. Have a read through our match predictions to find out why a Bristol City win is the betting tip for the match at Ashton Gate. Both sides were in Carabao Cup action in midweek, and both were successful in reaching the third round. Bristol City pulled off a shock at Vicarage Road with a 3-2 win at Premier League side Watford, while Aston Villa comfortably dispatched League One Wigan Athletic 4-1.

Bristol City v Aston Villa Preview

Bristol City had some good news on the injury front when Matty Taylor returned from injury in the shock win against Watford, but it is likely that he will take a place on the bench again here. Milan Djuric is the only major injury for the Robins. New addition Niclas Eliasson got what turned out to be the winner on Tuesday, and he could take Josh Brownhill’s place on the right side of midfield. Gary O’Neil and Aden Flint are also expected to start this game.

Aston Villa will have Mile Jedinak back from injury. The Aussie midfielder has been working on his fitness and should be fine to return at Ashton Gate. He is expected to start alongside Conor Hourihane in the centre of midfield. Hourihane will be looking to replicate his form of last weekend, where he grabbed a hat-trick against Norwich City. Though Scott Hogan grabbed 2 goals in midweek, young striker Keinan Davis is expected to keep his place in the side.

Bristol City v Aston Villa Prediction

Bristol City have been impressive in their last 3 games, bagging 11 goals. They should be excellent going forward, which will provide Villa with a lot of problems. Lee Johnson has got his side playing some excellent stuff, and the form of the front two Bobby Reid and Famara Diedhiou should give them confidence.

Aston Villa on the other hand have began to find the net on a consistent basis, with four goal hauls against Norwich and Wigan in consecutive games. The key to their success will be at the other end of the pitch though.

Even though Villa have made some big signings in the summer, such as former England captain John Terry, they have still looked quite shaky at the back. Though they seem to have turned their form around in the last few games, City’s win at Watford will really have them on a high.
