Newcastle just keep on chalking up the wins and their success at the weekend came on the back of a 3-1 victory at home to Brentford and a 0-2 triumph away to Barnsley. The Magpies are in good heart and go into this game looking for a sixth straight win.
However, as Norwich found out, Preston can be a tricky team to overcome. They gave as good as they got in a 2-2 draw away to promotion-chasing Brighton and eased to a 3-1 victory at home to high-flying Huddersfield before edging the Canaries and head to the North-East unbeaten in seven outings.
In terms of goals, Newcastle have been keeping it tight at the back and their games have been low-scoring as a result. On the other hand, Preston have been involved in some high-scoring matches and I think they have the ability to test Newcastle.
This has the makings of a fascinating contest but the feeling is that Newcastle have the squad depth to put out a strong team, even when freshening things up. Preston have shown that they can cut it with the big boys in the Championship and won’t make it easy for the hosts but I think they’ll lose this one.
