Wolverhampton Wanderers take on local rivals Birmingham City in a televised Championship match this Friday evening. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at Molineux. Wolves come into this match on the back of a 0-2 defeat at home to Chelsea in the FA Cup while the Blues will be looking to atone for their 1-4 home loss to Queens Park Rangers.

Wolves vs Birmingham City Preview

Wolves could welcome back Nouha Dicko from a hamstring injury but he’s unlikely to usurp Bodvarsson from the starting lineup. Joe Mason is sidelined with a hernia and Mike Williamson is still recovering from a groin injury. Michal Zyro is out with cruciate ligament damage and Jordan Graham is recovering from a similar injury.

Birmingham will be boosted by the return of both Midfielders Craig Gardner and David Davis from suspension. Lukas Jutkiewicz should be fit to return to the attack and left-back Cheick Keita is a slight doubt here. Centre-back Michael Morrison, winger Jacques Maghoma and strikers Clayton Donaldson are ruled out through injury.

Wolves vs Birmingham City Prediction

Wolves did brilliantly to overcome Liverpool in the FA Cup and backed that win up in good style with a 1-3 away win at Barnsley but it’s been grim viewing since then. Paul Lambert’s side were poor in a 2-1 defeat away to Burton Albion and have failed to score in a trio of home defeats to Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and Chelsea respectively.

Birmingham have dropped like a stone since Gianfranco Zola replaced Gary Rowett and a defeat in this match could signal the end of the Italian’s tenure at the club. The Blues looked to have turned a corner when edging an in form Fulham side 1-0 but they were hammered by Sheffield Wednesday and QPR either side of a 2-1 away loss at Preston.

Both of these teams are in terrible form and have been struggling for goals in general. The stats point to this being a low-scoring game and it will be tense viewing for both sets of fans. I can’t be confident in either side to go on and win this, so a punt on the draw looks the safest option.
