Goals from Bertrand Traoré and Jairo Riedewald helped Ajax overturn a one goal deficit to beat Panathinaikos 1-2 on match day 1. Meanwhile, Standard saw Mathieu Dossevi’s early goal cancelled out and had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Celta Vigo.
Hakim Ziyech was given his marching orders for a second yellow in Greece, so won’t be available for selection here. Manager Peter Bosz is unlikely to make any changes at the back and will probably employ Gudelj, Klassen and Schöne in a 3 man midfield. This will allow the continuation of a 3 pronged attack, featuring Younes, Dolberg and Traore.
Jean-François Gillet has kept his place despite a costly error against Celta Vigo and should continue between the sticks. Manager Aleksandar Jankovic has been tinkering with his side recently and Corontin Fiore was rested at the weekend, suggesting he could oust Elderson Echiéjilé at left-back. Given the task at hand, Standard Liege may look to flood the midfield which would leave either Benito Raman or Ishak Belfodil as a lone striker.

Ajax v Standard Liege Prediction
After a poor start to the season which saw Ajax knocked out of the Champions League, things have began to click into gear. The Dutch giants came from behind to secure a victory over Panathinaikos to go top of Group G in the middle of their current 6-game winning streak. Granted, Standard Liege are not expected to roll over but the hosts have smashed 5 goals past their opponents in back to back home matches, so will be confident here.
Bertrand Traore may have escaped the limelight, with Dolberg bagging a brace against PEC Zwolle. However, the Chelsea loanee got on the scoresheet himself and gave the opposing defenders the runaround, so is likely to be a threat once more.
Standard Liege have been struggling for consistency which has lead to constant chopping and changing by Aleksandar Jankovic. The Belgians have some talented players in their ranks but it remains to be seen if the right blend can be found.
The Reds started brightly against Celta Vigo but were soon pegged back and looked out of ideas as the game fizzled out into a boring stalemate. They then beat Lokeren 1-0 before losing 2-1 away to Geel but were back in the winning groove with an easy 3-0 success against the 10 men of Eupen on Sunday.
Ajax represent a much tougher test for the visitors who will need to step up considerably. It’s likely to be a backs to the wall performance for Standard Liege who without a plan b, will be looking to try and stifle their more illustrious opponents.
