Golf Betting Tips – The Masters
Golf betting tips for the Masters. It’s always a great treat at this time of the year to welcome the iconic Masters at Augusta, Georgia back. The set up never changes much, and generally offers the same challenge most years. This years the early forecast is for very breezy conditions, (possibly up to 25 to 30 MPH), and Thursday afternoon may get the worst of it. It’s also going to be cold, though it should get warmer, and the wind should drop nearer the weekend. So we need to factor that into our betting.
The course plays to 7,435 yards, though it much longer in reality as all of the fairways are cut against the players drives, making the ball stop very early. Fairways are very hilly and undulating, and the greens are usefully lightening quick with lots of breaks in the line of the putt. They hard to read, which goes someway to explain why any Masters golf tip must have an eye for the course and have experience of reading the greens do well year after year. The great Jack Nicklaus won here six times, Woods and the much missed Palmer four times and our own Nick Faldo three times. Players don’t need to be accurate here, as fairways are massive, but length can be a massive advantage, as scoring well at the Par 5s is the key to winning the Masters. Players who are fine putters is a requirement, any nervy players with the flat stick will sooner or later come unstuck. Debutants generally don’t win here, so again that’s something to take into account for the betting.
We had a great week on the betting front, with a winning tip on Russell Henley at 35/1, and are other pick Rickie Fowler landing the 16/1 E/W place money at the Shell Houston. So hopefully we can go close again this week.
Louis Oosthuizen 40/1 E/W (8 places) bet365
The main golf tips, Oosty, has a fairly early start on Thursday, and has a chance to put down a good marker for the others to follow. He’s a player loaded with class and has come close to winning this event when edged out by Bubba in 2012. Whilst his Masters record is not stellar, he is in decent form coming into this event. He played well in his last event at the Matchplay, where he just missed out getting to the knockout stage, and has also played well at Phoenix, where he came third. He’s an excellent exponent of playing the wind, so should not be as inconvenienced as some. I also think he may be suited to a sterner test this week, rather than an out and out shootout.
Rickie Fowler 20/1 E/W (8 places)William Hill
Fowler is the second Masters golf tip, he played well last week for a long time and is a player who is coming into this event playing some solid stuff. He blew his chances last year, when he he started with an 80, and missed the cut. Hopefully he will get of to a better start this week and is another player who shows he can play the wind, which he has shown in a few good showings in our Open. He can play a draw when needed, which suits Augusta, and when on song makes a lot of birdies. I thought even though he had a chance to win last week, he didn’t appear to be that upset and looked like a player who knows he’s very near to having a massive week. He played a lot of great low chip shots with spin, and that’s one of the key shots you need at the Masters.
Daniel Berger 66/1 E/W (8 places) bet365
For the last of our golf tips I will pick a player who came 10th last year on his debut, and had a very nice week at the Shell Houston. He has a good early draw on Thursday, and a late start on Friday, which could work out ideal. He’s a very attacking player, which to be honest is just as likely to be his undoing as it is to put him in a winning position, but aggressive play at the Masters can work. If he can temper his enthusiasm, and play aggressive when needed, he has every chance. Though he plays with a fade, he showed last year that the course suits his eye, and he showed last year week that he is rolling the flat stick nicely.
Other notables to mention are of course Dustin, Rory and Justin, no surnames needed for this three. Dustin has started to play this course very well in recent years, and a much better chipping game has really served him well. I just wonder if he can keep winning every time he turns up! That’s some pressure to perform to expectations, and the price is enough to put me of.
Rory surely has to win the Masters at some point, and a course that may be wet may play to his strengths, but the wind really puts me off backing him, for me he still has to prove he can handle it. Justin has an unbelievable record year, and as a Texan should be able to play any wind well, but is he coming into this event with the same form as the last few years? Possibly not.
