Republic of Ireland meet Wales in a live World Cup qualifier this Friday night. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at the Aviva Stadium. Ireland’s 0-1 win in Austria keeps them top of Group D by two points from Serbia. Wales are four points behind their hosts in third place, after drawing 1-1 with Serbia in the last round of matches.

Republic of Ireland vs Wales Preview

Rep Ireland will be skippered by Seamus Coleman and have an experienced head in defence with John O’Shea in line to earn his 117th cap. James McClean got the winner in Austria and could ba afforded an advanced role again, alongside Jonathan Walters. Defenders Andy Boyle and John Egan and midfielders Daryl Horgan and Conor Hourihane hope to make their debuts.

Wales will have a familiar looking starting XI, captained by Ashley Williams. James Chester is likely to partner him in central defence with Chris Gunter and Ben Davies either side. Joe Allen will pull the strings in midfield and much of their attacking play will go through Gareth Bale in attack. Liverpool youngster Ben Woodburn is in line for his senior debut.

Republic of Ireland vs Wales Prediction

Republic of Ireland are in great form but have players missing for this match. They opened the campaign with a well-earned 2-2 draw in Serbia before registering rudimentary wins over Georgia and Moldova. The win in Austria has put Martin O’Neill’s men in the driving seat and they look a tough opponent for any side right now.

Wales were left ruing missed opportunities against Serbia when they conceded a late equaliser to draw a third successive match in this qualification process. The Dragons got off to a good start with an easy win against Moldova and a draw away in Austria but slipped up when drawing 1-1 at home to Georgia and now have work to do to qualify.

Had Republic of Ireland been at full strength I’d have been tempted to tip them to win but Wales are no pushovers and will be up for this match. With Gareth Bale in the squad I always feel that they have a goal in them and that could be enough for a point here.
