Scotland travel to Slovenia for a crucial World Cup Qualifier on Sunday. Read the match predictions to find out why a Scotland win is the betting tip in Ljubljana. Scotland will be full of confidence after beating Slovakia by a goal to nil on Thursday and a play-off is now within their sights. Don’t count out Slovenia though, who can still reach the play-off even though they were beaten 1-0 against England after a late Harry Kane goal.

Slovenia vs Scotland Preview

Slovenia did a lot of defending against England at Wembley and for 90 minutes it looked like they were going to keep a clean sheet. Due to that solid defensive performance, the back line and the goalkeeper are likely to remain the same. They may decide to change things up in attack though, as there did seem to be a lack of firepower in the side. Birsa would be the most likely to come into the attack.

Scotland could decide to go two up top after Derby Country striker Chris Martin came off the bench and did well against Slovakia. He actually forced Martin Skrtel into the crucial error that lead to the own goal too, which won the Scots the game. Club teammate Ikechi Anya also did well off the bench and could be pushing for a place in the side.

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Scotland have scored an average of 1.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.1 goals per game

Slovenia v Scotland Prediction

Slovenia still have a chance of finishing second in the group and therefore will be doing everything they can to win this game. Their recent form has not been that great, only recording 2 wins in their last 5 qualifiers and those came against Malta and Lithuania.

Scotland are still in contention for a first major tournament appearance since the World Cup of 1998 and a win here would secure second place in Group F. You’d have to say it would be deserved too, as they have won their last 3 qualifiers and were unlucky not to beat England at Hampden too.

Back in March, it was Scotland that got the upper hand with a 1-0 win at Hampden Park, thanks to a late goal from Chris Martin. The same could very well happen again, and if it does then Scotland will be runners up in the group.
