Wimbledon Predictions | Ladies Second Round

With some big seeds falling in the opening round of the ladies draw at Wimbledon 2015, we look at what’s in store for round two.

Venus Williams stormed in to the second round, thanks to a commanding 6-0 6-0 win over Madison Brengle on Monday. Williams was clearly on another level to her opponent that day but was never really tested. A receiving points won percentage of 63, highlights how in control Williams was.

In the second round, Williams will take on Yulia Putintseva. The 20 year old Kazakh came through 7-6 7-5 against Marina Erakovic in the first round. It’s the first time that Putintseva has made the second round at Wimbledon and she will have to improve her return game, if she is to stand any chance against Venus Williams.

Williams is 1/3 with Bet365 to win the match 2-0 and Putintseva, who is very unlikely to win in straight sets, is 12/1 to come through 2-1.

There’s an interesting match-up on number one court, as Heather Watson takes on Daniela Hantuchova. Watson has stressed how keen she is to avoid another slow start, like she suffered in the first round, in which the Brit came back from a set down to win. Hantuchova has played at every Wimbledon since 2001 and has significant experience, however, this is the first year the 32 year old has progressed beyond round one since 2011.

The pair met in the first round of the Australian Open in 2014, which Hantuchova won 2-1. This has the makings of a very close match and Watson has had little time to recover in comparison to her opponent. Hantuchova is 16/5 with Skybet to win this match 2-1.

Elsewhere, our outsider pick to win the tournament, Angelique Kerber eased through her first round match and is currently 16/1 with Bet365 to win Wimbledon 2015.
