Reigning Ligue 1 champions Monaco take on Coup de France holders Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophee des Champions on Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why a Monaco win is the betting tip at Grande Stade de Tanger. PSG come into this match on the back of a hectic-pre season tour in the USA and Monaco can capitalise on their fitness advantage.

Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain Preview

Monaco have lost a few big names in the transfer window with Tiemoué Bakayoko, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy all moving on. But they’ve snapped up promising midfielder Youri Tielemans who is set to forge a partnership with Fabinho in the engine room. Kylian Mbappe is the subject of speculation but is expected to start alongside goal machine Radamel Falcao in attack.

PSG are expected to have former Monaco left-back Layvin Kurzawa back to full fitness and he should start against his old side. On the other side of defence, new signing Dani Alves is expected to start ahead of Thomas Meunier and Serge Aurier. Marco Verratti is doubtful and Julian Draxler will be rested after the Confederations Cup.

Team Predictions Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain

PSG 4-3-3 formation: Trapp; Kurzawa, Silva, Marquinhos, Alves; Matuidi, Motta, Rabiot; Pastore, Cavani, Di Maria

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, PSG have scored an average of 2.5 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game

Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain Prediction

Monaco made a name for themselves as being a free-scoring side last season and recent friendly results suggest that their attacking verve and vigour remains. They thumped Stoke City 4-2 and have scored 10 goals in six pre-season matches thus far. If Mbappe and Falcao do indeed start together, then PSG will have some defending to do.

The Parisiens have recently taken part in the International Champions Cup and while they have also been scoring, their defence has proven to be particularly leaky. Calamitous errors handed Tottenham Hotspur a 2-4 victory and there were more mistakes when losing 2-3 to Juventus. Paris-SG will doubtless offer a threat going forward but could be vulnerable at the back.

Although the Trophee des Champions isn’t considered a major honour, both sides will be looking to assert themselves as possible Ligue 1 champions by putting in a solid performance. Monaco should strip fitter and can prove that they are still a force to be reckoned with, despite undergoing something of an exodus this summer.
