Newcastle United vs Huddersfield Preview
Newcastle United have lost just one of their last six games and have moved up to 13th in the table and four points above the bottom three.
Their last game ended in a 3-0 victory for Rafa’s men which is only the third time his side have been able to find the net more than two times in a league game this season. Benitez is finally starting to see results from his hard work and Newcastle now look like a Premier League side going forward as well as defensively. Rafa and the Toon Army may have another reason to celebrate as Saturday may be the time they finally see an appearance from on-loan forward Islam Slimani. The Algerian national has been sidelined with a thigh injury since his January loan move from Leicester much to the frustration of all on Tyneside as they have struggled for a consistent goalscorer of late. Slimani featured in Algeria’s international friendly against Iran on Tuesday and so Rafa will be looking to give the striker game time on Saturday to see how he performs. A win on Saturday would move Newcastle up to 12th in the table should Brighton fail to take maximum points from their match against Leicester and could take them seven points clear of the bottom three with seven games remaining.
Newcastle’s Matt Richie picked up a knock and withdraw himself from Scotlands international friendly earlier in the week and will be a doubt for Saturday. Benitez will have the choice of with Christian Atsu or Jacob Murphy as his replacement. Martin Dubravka will remain as Benitez’s first choice goalkeeper after impressing since his arrival from Sparta Prague. However, with Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow both nursing injuries, United could be left short with a backup.
Huddersfield sit two places below Newcastle in 15th place and just a point behind them. They’re three points clear of the bottom three but have a poor goal difference and so manager David Wagner will be looking to pick up points to make sure his side don’t get dragged down any further. After a 4-1 win at home to Bournemouth followed by a 2-1 win away to West Brom two weeks later, Huddersfield are winless in their last three and have failed to find the net in any of those games.
From the 15 games Huddersfield have played away from home, they have lost 10 of them. Only rock-bottom West Brom have lost more. They’ve also struggled to find the net on their travels, scoring just 10 goals in 15 games and failing to score at all in 11 of those. The Terriers have seven games remaining, the final two of those being against Manchester City and Arsenal and so the next few weeks are crucial in deciding Huddersfield’s fate.
Aaron Mooy, Philip Billing and Terence Kongolo all have injury concerns but Wagner is hoping the trio will be fit enough to feature in his squad on Saturday.

Newcastle United vs Huddersfield Predictions
Newcastle look like one of the more likely sides to pull away from the relegation zone and even in their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool they looked well organised, hungry and dangerous. Their recent 3-0 win over Southampton will give Rafa’s men a boost and the possible debut of Islam Slimani will give Rafa more options in attack.
Newcastle have been pretty solid at St James Park this season and although they haven’t scored many goals, they haven’t conceded many either. They have the best defensive record at home out of all of the teams in the bottom half of the table and Huddersfield are going to find it tough to break them down, especially since the visitors have failed to score in their last three games.
With Rafa’s organisational skills, we’re backing Newcastle to take the win. However, we’re not expecting a flurry of goals and so under 2.5 goals scored is our tip.

Newcastle claim the most wins against Huddersfield with three victories from the six played with Huddersfield winning two.
The last two meetings between these two sides have been at Kirklees Stadium with each team picking up a win each. The last meeting was in August of last year where a single goal from Aaron Mooy decided the game and handed all three points to the hosts.
The last time these two sides met at St James Park was last season when they were both in the Championship. Huddersfield won that game 2-1 with Jack Payne bagging the winner in the 82nd minute.
