Roma vs Liverpool Preview
Roma have little option but to commit to all out attack as they look to overturn a 5-2 deficit from the first leg on Merseyside last week.
Eusebio Di Francesco may revert to a deeper back four on Wednesday after Liverpool took full advantage of the high line Roma played at Anfield in the first leg. Diego Perotti kept the tie alive by converting a late penalty but the Argentine forward will miss out on the return leg after finishing the game with an ankle injury. He joins Rick Karsdorp and Gregoire Defrel on the sidelines, and they are the only other injury concerns. Di Francesco will recall Kostas Manolas, Kevin Strootman, Cengiz Under and Alessandro Florenzi who were rested at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp is hopeful Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joseph Gomez, Jordan Henderson and Sadio Mane will recover from their various niggles in time to feature in Rome. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is definitely ruled out after picking up a season-ending injury in the first leg. Georginio Wijnaldum is expected to be his replacement in midfield.

Roma vs Liverpool Prediction
Roma bounced back from the first leg defeat with a 4-1 home win against Chievo on Saturday when Edin Dzeko bagged a brace to take his Serie A tally to 16 for the season. Stephen El Shaarawy got his name on the score sheet for the first time in four starts to stake his claim for a recall to the Champions League lineup.
Last week’s result in Liverpool witnessed some uncharacteristic defending as Roma had only conceded once in the previous four games, including a clean sheet in the 3-0 victory over Barcelona in the previous round. Their home record in this season’s competition is very impressive where they’ve yet to concede a goal in five games.
Liverpool were held 0-0 by relegation-threatened Stoke at the weekend but that result can be overlooked as the starting eleven will bear little resemblance in Rome on Wednesday. It was only the second time in 10 games the Reds have failed to score but at the same time, it extended their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.
Roma will be hoping for lightning to strike twice after overcoming a 4-1 first leg deficit to eliminate Barcelona on away goals in the quarter final. But, as they showed when beating Manchester City in both legs, Liverpool relish the opposition taking the game to them.

The 5-2 first leg scoreline was the first time more than two goals have scored in a competitive game between the two sides. They were drawn against each other in the 2000/01 Europa League in which Liverpool progressed 2-1 on aggregate and the Merseysiders came out on top in the following season’s Champions League second group stage, holding their opponents 0-0 in Rome before winning the return fixture 2-0 at Anfield.
So far in this competition, Roma have won four and one of five home games, keeping five clean sheets and failing to score once.
Liverpool have won three, drawn four and drawn two of six away games, keeping two clean sheets and scoring in all six matches.
