Brighton & Hove Albion take on Sheffield Wednesday in a televised Championship match this Friday night. Read the match predictions to find out why a draw is the betting tip at Falmer Stadium. Brighton come into this match on the back of 2-0 defeat away to Preston North End while Sheff Wed enjoyed a 2-0 win at home to Huddersfield Town.

Brighton vs Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Brighton welcome back Lewis Dunk to the defence after a two-game ban and Dale Stephens should come back into midfield after recovering from an illness. Both Gaëtan Bong and Sébastien Pocognoli are doubtful but the former is expected to start at left-back. Meanwhile on the other side of defence, Liam Rosenior is still short of match fitness and is not expected to feature.

Sheff Wed Sheff Wed could have Callum McManaman and Gary Hooper available for this one and both will provide solid options on the bench. Almen Abdi and Urby Emanuelson are back in training but this match will come too soon while Will Buckley and Marco Matias remain absent. Steven Fletcher and Fernando Forestieri will partner up in attack.

Brighton vs Sheffield Wednesday Prediction

Brighton certainly had an off day at Preston as that was their first defeat in eighteen competitive matches. The Seagulls are flying high in the Championship and can go back above Newcastle to retake the lead with a win here. They also have a game in hand, so Chris Hughton’s men can really put the pressure on, if they can overcome Sheffield Wednesday.

That may not be an easy task though. The Owls have lost just one of their last 10 Championship matches, form which has put them on the cusp of the playoffs in recent weeks. Sheff Wed didn’t put up much of a fight when losing 3-0 away to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup but were back to something like their best against Huddersfield and will be hoping to catch Brighton on an off day.

The hosts are unbeaten in 9 home matches and will as ever be tough to break down. The visitors have lost just one of their last five away games in the Championship and have kept clean sheets in two wins on the road in that period. Both sides are solid at the back so I’m not expecting a goal-fest and with little to separate them a draw is the betting tip.
