Wolverhampton Wanderers play host to Newcastle United in a live Championship match this Saturday evening. Read the match predictions to find out why an away win is the betting tip at Molineux. Wolves come into this match on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat way to relegation threatened Burton Albion. Meanwhile, Newcastle won 1-0 at home to Derby County who are pushing for a playoff spot.

Wolves vs Newcastle United Preview

Wolves are set to welcome back Joe Mason after shaking off the knock which ruled him out of the loss at Burton. He’ll slot in behind lone striker Nouha Dicko. Romain Saiss is available after the African Cup of Nations but will be rested. Former Newcastle defender Mike Williamson has a groin injury while Michal Zyro and Jordan Graham are also in the treatment room.

Newcastle are unlikely to risk Dwight Gayle here, so it’s between Daryl Murphy and Aleksandar Mitrovic to lead the line for the visitors. Chancel Mbemba and Christian Atsu are back from the African Cup of Nations but are unlikely to be involved. Vurnon Anita and Rolando Aarons are injured while Jack Colback is short of fitness.

Wolves vs Newcastle United Prediction

Wolves raised their game to claim a massive scalp in the FA Cup a fortnight ago, beating Liverpool 1-2 at Anfield. They backed that up with a 1-3 win at Barnsley but took a real backwards step when losing to Burton last time out. That defeat leaves them just seven points from safety and still looking over their shoulder.

Newcastle paid the price for fielding a weakened team in the FA Cup and were dumped out by Oxford United. The Magpies were far from convincing against QPR but looked to be heading for victory until an unlucky own goal at the death resulted in a 2-2 draw. Rafa Benitez had his players well organised against Derby though and they’ll be tough to beat if turning up in the same mood at Molineux.

A glance at the Championship table shows the gulf in class between these sides but there are no easy games in this division. Newcastle have the quality to win here but I wouldn’t be surprised if Wolves made a game of it. I fancy both teams to score but expect Newcastle to get the job done.
