Premier League preview – West Ham vs Newcastle Prediction

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is still having to cope with a number of injury problems. Enner Valencia, Mauro Zarate, Andy Carroll and Joey O’Brien are all likely to miss out and new signing Alex Song is also struggling with injury. Goalkeeper Adrian is suspended but full-back Carl Jenkinson is available again following his ban.

Newcastle are without striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who is suspended following a red card against Arsenal. That should mean a start for Papiss Cisse in attack, with Emmanuel Riviere and Sylvain Marveaux still out with injury.

Possible Line-ups

West Ham: 4-3-3 formation: Randolph; Tompkins, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell; Obiang, Noble, Kouyate; Payet, Lanzini, Sakho

Newcastle: 4-2-3-1 formation: Krul; Janmaat, Coloccini, Mbemba, Haidara; Anita, Colback; Wijnaldum, Sissoko, Thauvin; Cisse

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of West Ham’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Newcastle’s previous 10 matches
  • Both teams have managed to score in only 1 of their 7 previous meetings

Prediction

Both teams have had a mixed start to the season but West Ham will definitely enter this match as the happier of the two. Despite suffering two home defeats at the hands of Leicester City and Bournemouth, West Ham have stunned the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool with two excellent away performances. A first home win of the season will see the Hammers move comfortably in to the upper half of the Premier League table.

Newcastle once again find themselves at the wrong end of the table. A good performance away at Manchester United was undone with a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Arsenal. However, Newcastle were forced to play the majority of that match with 10 men and played well in parts, remaining in the match throughout and could easily have claimed a point.

However, defeat at West Ham will mean a return of only 2 points from a possible 15 and the pressure is already building on Steve McClaren. Neither team have looked particularly solid at the back but Newcastle’s failure to score in their last 3 Premier League games is a concern and West Ham could nick this with a single goal.

We say: West Ham to win by 1 goal at 11/4 with Bet365
