Spanish La Liga preview – Barcelona vs Las Palmas prediction

For Barcelona, Jordi Alba should be fit to start on the left after sitting out of last game against Celta Vigo through injury. Marc-Andre ter Stegen should remain in goal owing to Claudio Bravo’s injury. There is reason to look at what Sergi Roberto can offer at right back in Alves’ place but Enrique may retain the experienced Brazilian in the starting XI.

For Las Palmas, Angel and Javi Castellano are still out of contention with injuries. Just like every team that come to Nou Camp, Las Palmas should opt for a resolute defensive line. Mubarak Wakaso could be in line for a second start in midfield unless the team opts for a more defensive minded player. Jonathan Viera and Sergio Araujo should continue up top.

Possible Line-ups

Barcelona: 4-3-3 formation: ter Stegen; Alba, Pique, Bartra, Alves; Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Neymar, Suarez, Messi

Las Palmas: 3-5-2 formation: Varas; Aythami, Bigas, Alcaraz; Castellano, Mesa, Wakaso, Culio, Simon; Araujo, Viera

Statistics

  • Barcelona have won 8 of their last 9 home matches in La Liga
  • Barcelona failed to score in only 1 of their last 10 matches in all competitions
  • Barcelona have scored at least 2 goals in 8 of their last 9 home matches in La Liga
  • Las Palmas lost 6 of their last 10 games in all competitions
  • Las Palmas failed to score a goal in 7 of their last 10 matches in all competitions
  • Las Palmas were involved in matches under 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 10 matches in all competitions

Prediction

Barcelona were overwhelmed in their last match against Celta Vigo losing 4-1 away from home. Though the score line was a little generous to Celta, Barcelona were second best for most part of the match. There would be pressure to get back to winning ways. Luis Enrique may not experiment much and start with his potent striker troika up front. The back four could be up for a little shuffle with Alba and Batra back in the mix.

Las Palmas scored their first win of the season with a surprise but solid 2-0 victory over Sevilla. Although Sevilla is struggling currently in La Liga, it was nevertheless a morale boost. They would be wary of the backlash from Barcelona but would also note the weakness of the Blaugrana to counter attacks.

A loss in any competition is a setback for Barcelona and two straight defeats is a catastrophe. Messi and co will be eager to get back on track. It is difficult to see beyond a Barcelona win.
