Euro 2016 preview – Bosnia vs Wales prediction

The main concern for Bosnia ahead of this important game is the fitness of Edin Dzeko. The Roma striker remained in Italy, in an aim to recover for this game and even if not 100%, will be given every chance to start the game by manager Mehmed Bazdarevic. Elsewhere, Muhamed Besic is out following his red card against Andorra.

Wales manager Chris Coleman will be delighted to have Gareth Bale in his squad, having recovered from injury in time to make this game. Joe Ledley and Joe Allen are also back in the squad following injury and if fit, should slot in to the starting XI as part of a three man central midfield.

Possible Line-ups

Bosnia: 4-4-2 formation: Begovic; Kolasinac, Hajrovic, Spahic, Mujdza; Visca, Pjanic, Medunjanin, Lulic; Dzeko, Ibisevic

Wales: 3-5-2 formation: Hennessey; Gunter, Williams, Davies; Richards, Allen, Ledley, Ramsey, Taylor; Bale, Robson-Kanu

  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 7 of Bosnia’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Bosnia were one of the favourites, along with Belgium, to automatically qualify from this group but they are now fighting just to secure a play-off spot. It was their start to the group, which has really cost Bosnia, losing matches to the likes of Israel and Cyprus early on, has meant they have been playing catch up ever since. However, recent results have improved and Bosnia have won 3 of their last 4 qualifiers, including a 3-1 home win over Israel.

Wales come in to this game knowing that a point will secure qualification to the Euro 2016 finals. This qualifying campaign has been built upon a solid defensive record, having conceded just 2 goals in 8 games and they sit top of Group B on 18 points. Away from home, Wales have defeated Andorra, Israel and Cyprus, plus picked up a 0-0 draw at Belgium, so they will not hold any fear travelling to Bosnia.

Bosnia desperately need the win to secure a play-off place but Wales are set up nicely to hit them on the counter-attack. This one could end in a low scoring draw.
