Serie A preview – Juventus vs Sassuolo prediction.

Stefano Sturaro has been troubled with a toe injury since last weekend and Juventus will check his fitness prior to Friday’s visit of Sassuolo. Giorgio Chiellini is close to a comeback but next week’s Champions League clash with Bayern is a more realistic target. Other than Martin Caceres, who is out for the season, Max Allegri has no more injury concerns. Alex Sandro was left out of last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Atalanta and will push Patrice Evra for a place at left-back. 22-year-old Mario Lemina scored when coming on as a second half substitute and will be hoping for a rare start since joining from Marseilles last summer.

Sassuolo will be without joint leading scorer Gregoire Defrel who was sent off against Milan on Sunday, Diego Falconelli appears the obvious replacement. Centre-back Paulo Cannavaro and midfielder Simone Missiroli strained hamstrings during the 2-0 win and face fitness tests before kick off. Luca Antei and Davide Biondini are on standby. Karim Laribi is due to be assessed on the hamstring injury that has kept him out of action for the past month.

Prediction

Juventus are looking to set a new record of 10 successive clean sheets in Serie A. Allegri will admit his players have not been at their best recently but still manage to force a result as witnessed in the late comeback to earn a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich two weeks ago. Juventus had previously dropped two points at Bologna ending a run of 13 consecutive wins and followed by losing 3-0 to Inter in the Coppa Italia before progressing on penalties. However, they won comfortably at Atalanta last weekend to remain three points clear at the top of the league.

Seventh-placed Sassuolo are one of the most improved teams in Serie A with 12 more points than at the same stage last season. Eusebio Di Francesco’s side is unbeaten in five games and has won the last three. They have a record of raising their game against the big clubs and have already defeated Juventus (h1-0), Napoli (h2-1) and Inter (a1-0) and drew (2-2) away at Roma.

This is a potential banana skin for Juventus making the win odds of 2/5 a relatively high risk for such a small return.
