Cheltenham Tip – Teenage Cancer Silver Tropy Chase
Cheltenham tip for the Teenage Cancer Trust Silver Trophy Chase at 3.35 on Wednesday. Eight horses are set for the two-and-a-half-mile contest headed by the enigmatic Wishful Thinking who has to give upwards of 13lb to his seven rivals, a task which may prove beyond the Philip Hobbs-trained 13-year-old.
The lightly-raced Voix D’Eau from the stable of Harry Fry is an interesting contender as the six-year-old has progressed nicely since joining Fry from France while Next Sensation and Art Mauresque are capable of going close if putting their best foot forward but the one they all have to beat if showing anything like his best form is the Jonjo O’Neill-trained Johns Spirit.
The son of Gold Well has slipped to as very attractive mark of 145, 15lb below his best, due to a number of moderate efforts earlier in the season on ground that wouldn’t have suited. Following a break of almost two months the gelding returned to action in the Brown Advisory Plate at the Cheltenham festival and with the conditions looking to be ideal was sent off the well-backed 11-2 joint-favourite.
The mount of Richie McLernon looked to be travelling well in midfield until making mistakes at the 10th and 11th fences after which the horse was pulled up shortly afterwards. There is little doubt that Johns Spirit is up to winning a decent prize off his current mark and this smaller field may help him put in a better round of jumping.
Joshua Moore takes over in the saddle on this occasion and at the 7-2 available with Betfair Sportsbook rates the best bet on the card.
