Horse Racing Tip – 3.40 Gowran Park 24-04-16
The Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at 3.40 Gowran Park today sees the reappearance of the well-bred Discipline. Dermot Weld’s filly looks like going off a warm favourite for the 1m 1f contest such was the impression the daughter of Dansili created when easily landing the odds on the course earlier this month.
The mount of Pat Smullen was not extended to win that maiden race, her only start to date, as she was sent off 4-11 market leader. The Khalid Abdullah-owned filly will find things much tougher in this company and looks worth taking on with the Jessica Harrington inmate Bocca Baciata.
The Big Bad Bob filly was highly tried as a three-year-old but still managed to record two victories, the best being a Group 3 contest in August at the Curragh. Beaten less than two lengths the following month behind the high-class pair of Ribbons and Tapestry in the Group 2 Moyglare Blandford Stakes also at the home of the Irish Derby. That is form which puts her in a different league to anything her rivals have yet achieved.
While there is no doubt Discipline has huge potential, Bocca Baciata is preferred after her first run of this campaign on unsuitable ground should have put her spot on for her second run of the season.
