Trophee Hassan II Golf Tip
The European Tour moves on to Morocco this week for the Trophee Hassan II, which after a five-year break returns this year to its original venue, the Royal Golf Dar El Salam in Rabat. This Robert Trent Jones designed track has been used for this event since its inception in 1971 up to 2010, when the event become an official tournament on the European Tour and moved to the Golf Du Palais GC in Agadir.
The tree lined Par 72 7,487yd Red Course is in keeping with many RTJ layouts, in that it features dog legged fairways and raised greens, which will require precision iron play to get at pins on these small undulating greens. Although Rhys Davies won the 2010 renewal here with a score of 25 under, that score is a little flattering as it included one round on the much easier Blue Course. Sunshine and showers with light breezes are forecast for the four days, so expect another low scoring heat this week.
This is another event where we have little course form to work from, so we will again just put up two selections in this decidedly weak looking field.

Alejandro Canizares 16/1 E/W Ladbrokes
My main fancy this week is the Spaniard Alejandro Canizares who won the 2014 Trophee Hassan II at its previous venue. That track has similarities to this week’s venue, in that it is also a Trent Jones Snr designed course that requires accuracy and precision iron play, which are definitely Canizares main strengths in his game. He comes here off the back of a Tied 11th place finish in his last start in the Open De Espana and could well be fresher than some of his counterparts who have played the last two rain-delayed weeks in China. He only finished Tied 43rd here in 2010, but this is a pretty desperate field, so the Spaniard must still have every chance of posting his third Tour victory.
