This event is played in Charlotte, Carolina and the course plays to around 7,562 yards. Whilst been able to shape your shots is a positive this week, I believe raw power from the tee is going to be the main requirement. The Par 5s are usually in-range for most of the field, but there has been a fair share of rain coming into this week (better forecast for weekend) and players who can bomb it on these softened fairways will definitely have a scoring advantage. One of the Par 3s has also been moved up to about 340 yards, so again the Rory’s of the golfing world will be licking their lips. The rough around here is not too penal and past years have shown that power hitters have not been inconvenienced by it. In-running punters need to keep an eye on the final three holes, The Green Mile, which has wrecked a few cards and altered the likely winner of the event on the final Sunday on numerous occasions.

Daniel Berger 35/1 E/W Paddy Power (1/5 odds 7 places)

I’m going to give Berger another go this week as he played well for some time last week, but ultimately did not start well enough in the third and final round of the rain-affected Zurich Open. It was a shame, as he was nicely in position on ‘moving day’ and there could have been a different outcome with further play. Whilst he has only played here once, (28th), this looks like a course that will suit and he is in fine form having racked up multi top twenty finishes. He’s got plenty of length off the tee and going back to playing on his favourite Bermuda grass greens is an added bonus. With doubt over some of the players at the head of the market, 35/1 is a decent price at Paddy Power’s each way terms.
