Horse Racing Tip – 4.15 Ascot 07-05-16

The big betting race on Saturday afternoon is the totescoop6 Victoria Cup at Ascot and the seven-furlong Heritage Handicap at 4.15pm is going to take some solving with a competitive field of 29 taking part in the race worth over £65k to the winner.

William Haggas’ recent Haydock scorer Predominance heads the betting at a best price 8-1 and the mount of Pat Cosgrave has to go on any short list along with stablemate Valley Of Fire who will appreciate the step up in trip following a couple of creditable efforts over a furlong shorter last season.

The Godolphin main contender Hold Tight has won two of his three starts, the most recent on Lingfield’s all-weather surface, and returning to turf could prove better than his current mark of 96 but the value of the race may lie with the John Best runner Mullionheir at the 22-1 available with William Hill.

The four-year-old was in cracking form last season winning five of his seven starts going up from a rating of 55 to 94. Ridden in all of those races by Kieren Fox the partnership will be attempting to make it six from eight at the Berkshire track and the son of Mullionmileanhour may be capable  of yet more improvement in the months ahead.

The gelding’s only defeats in 2015 came at Goodwood and Newmarket but was not beaten far in either contest, the most praiseworthy being the latter when fourth behind top sprinting prospect Magical Memory, only giving best to that exciting prospect well inside the final furlong.

Providing a high draw (26) does not prove a significant disadvantage Mullionheir should continue his progression by running another fine race for connections.
