Horse Racing Tip – 7.40 Sandown 26-05-16

Sandown stage one of the best evening meetings of the season on Thursday with the feature being the Group 3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at 7.40pm. The mile and a quarter contest has attracted a quality field headed by the Roger Charlton-trained Juddmonte International fourth Time Test but the Dubawi colt may struggle to concede 5lb to Intilaaq on this, his seasonal reappearance.

The son of Dynaformer created a big impression when running away with a Newbury maiden last April, a performance which saw the Roger Varian-trained colt being sent off at only 8-1 for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. The mount of Dane O’Neill however, found the giant step up in class too much to handle on just his third career start, coming home in fifteenth place behind Gleneagles.

Given time to mature Intilaaq was not seen for another ten weeks when proving a different proposition, running out a convincing winner of a Listed contest back at Newbury. Upped to Group 3 class for his next start in Haydock’s Rose Of Lancaster Stakes the progressive colt once again showed his Guineas form all wrong by putting five lengths between himself and runner-up Master Carpenter.

Sent to Meydan for a Group 1 race in March Intilaaq failed to show his true running, a run which is probably best ignored. Back on more familiar terrain the mount of Paul Hanagan can get back to winning ways before another attempt at the highest grade later in the season.

Along with Time Test the other major challenge could come from the Frankie Dettori-ridden Western Hymn.
