Horse Racing Tip – Betfred Mile Goodwood
The twenty-runner Betfred Mile at Glorious Goodwood on Friday is usually one of the most fiercely competitive races at the five-day summer festival but this year’s renewal could prove an exception. The Michael Bell-trained Franklin D has been granted a favourable low draw and possesses all the hallmarks to qualify as the free horse racing tip in the £150,000 Heritage Handicap.
A 3lb penalty for a comfortable victory at Newmarket recently guarantees the four-year-old a place in the contest. It has a history of hard luck stories due to the inevitable traffic congestion as the race begins in earnest but as the son of Medaglia d'Oro prefers to lead or race prominently that eventuality is somewhat negated.
Racing off a 10lb lower mark than in future handicaps following that six-length demolition of Hors De Combat at headquarters and allied to the fact that the progressive colt will have the services of Ryan Moore in the saddle means that Franklin D ticks nearly all of the boxes. The only possible negative being the possibility of a high draw.
At the 6-1 generally available it may pay to back the horse before the final declaration stage, as if berthed favourably Franklin D could easily go off a 7-2 shot or shorter. The three horses who appeal most as possible dangers are last season's Cambridgeshire winner Third Time Lucky, the back to form Celestial Halo and Donncha from the Robert Eddery stable.
