Aston Villa defender Albert Adomah has recovered from injury and will push for a place in the starting line up after coming on for the last 10 minutes of the 0-0 draw at Ipswich on Saturday. Manager Roberto Di Matteo experimented with a 3-5-2 set up at Portman Road but could revert to the familiar 4-4-2 despite the Villans keeping their first clean sheet in four Championship matches.
Leading goalscorer Rudy Gestede, with three from six, is likely to partner Ross McCormack up front, the 30-year-old Scot scored 21 in 45 games for Fulham last season and has netted twice for Villa in the seven starts.
Newcastle avenged last weekend’s 2-0 home defeat against Wolves when beating Walter Zenga’s side by the same score in a rematch in the EFL Cup at St James’ Park on Tuesday. Matt Ritchie and Youan Gouffran scored within a couple of minutes of each other midway through the first half as the Magpies ran out comfortable winners.
Daryl Murphy failed to find the net on his debut in the cup game and Benitez is likely to decide between Dwight Gayle who has scored four from six so far and Aleksandr Mitrovic for the maim striker role. Ever-present Vurnon Anita was sent off on Saturday which could allow DeAndre Yedlin his fourth start at right back.

Villa are unbeaten in four home games so far this season but have not registered a win in the Championship since beating Rotherham 3-0 on the opening day. They have been held to draws by current league leaders Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest and Brentford and the tough run of home fixtures continues with the visit of title favourites, Newcastle.
Matteo’s side has led in all four home games but despite having one of the better defensive records in the league, have struggled to finish off opponents at Villa Park. They rely on the firepower of Gestede and McCormack who between them have scored five of their eight league goals so far in this campaign.
Newcastle lost their first two games of the season before winning five on the bounce. The run came to an end with the home defeat against Wolves on Saturday which saw the black and whites slip to third in the title race.
Benitez’ side has won its last three away games without conceding and hammered Queens Park Rangers 6-0 on the most recent road trip. The Magpies are the division’s second highest scorers with 16 goals from eight games, nine of which have been scored away from home.
Aston Villa have not defeated Newcastle home or away since April 2011 and may have to settle for a share of the points for the fourth time in the last five head-to-head meetings.
