Leicester vs Southampton Prediction, Betting Tips and Preview
Southampton travel to face Champions Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday. Read the match predictions to find out why Saints are the betting tip to get three points in this Premier League clash.
Leicester vs Southampton Preview
Leicester’s European exploits have come at a cost and they sit 12th in the table on 7 points. Southampton have also been juggling domestic and continental football and are just a single point better off in 9th.
Claudio Ranieri has shaken his ‘tinkerman’ moniker but may need to freshen things up after a demanding game against Porto in midweek. Danny Simpson looks set to return at right-back while Demarai Gray’s consolation goal from the bench against Manchester United puts him in contention to start along with Shinji Ozakazi. Jamie Vardy and Islam Slimani are on 2 Premier League goals each and would seem unlikely to be dropped here.
Southampton’s Charlie Austin didn’t travel to Israel, so is almost certain to come in for Shane Long up-front, especially as he has bagged 4 goals in his last 3 matches. He is expected to be partnered by Nathan Redmond with Dusan Tadic in behind the pair. Florian Gardos is still some way off a return and club-record signing Sofiane Boufal isn’t due back until mid-October, so the starting XI will be something akin to the one which excelled at West Ham.

Leicester vs Southampton Prediction
Leicester’s recent form is up and down but they will remain a tough nut to crack in front of their own fans where they are unbeaten in their last 18 Premier League matches. The Foxes lost 2-4 to Chelsea (after extra time) in the EFL Cup recently and that was followed by a sorry showing away to Manchester United which ended 4-1.
They became the first team in history to win their first two Champions League matches at the first attempt, when following up success against Club Brugge with a hard-earned 1-0 triumph over Porto through the week. The only concern is that domestic results have not been so impressive of late.
Southampton had been leaking goals, so it’s no coincidence that their current 5-game unbeaten streak has coincided with some solid defensive displays. Whoever they start at the back, the Saints defence looks watertight at the moment and they’ll arrive in Leicester full of confidence.
The visitors won 2-0 against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup and dismantled West Ham to secure a 0-3 success last time out in the Premier League. Despite fielding a shadow side away to Hapoel Beer Sheva in the Europa League, they shut up shop once more to gain a valuable point following a 0-0 draw in Israel on Thursday night.
Leicester will do well to break down Southampton here and may leave themselves exposed in doing so. With Charlie Austin set to return, Claude Puel’s men have a potent threat in attack and I can see them heading back to the South coast with all 3 points.
