Hull City vs Southampton Preview

Hull have something of an injury crisis, with 9 players currently in the physioroom. Robert Snodgrass, Andrew Robertson and Dieumerci Mbokani are a trio of key players that won’t feature, along with the suspended Adama Diomande. Tom Huddlestone could start from the bench, if Mike Phelan sticks to the same XI that started in the loss to Watford.

Southampton also have a few players out, most notably right-back Cédric Soares and forward Shane Long. Florin Gardos has resumed full training but this match is likely to come too soon for him. Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin are set to lead the attack, with Sofiane Boufal likely to start from the bench.

Hull City vs Southampton Prediction

Hull are in the relegation zone and have not won in 8 league games. After being thrashed by Bournemouth they missed the chance to beat another struggling side when losing 0-2 at home to Stoke City. A 1-2 EFL Cup win at Bristol City stopped the rot but last week’s loss at Watford leaves them 3 points from safety.

Southampton are coping quite well with the added responsibility of European football and sit ninth in the Premier League table. Saints gave as good as they got in a 1-1 draw at Manchester City before beating Sunderland 1-0 in the EFL Cup. They ran into a form side when going down 0-2 at home to Chelsea last weekend but the midweek win against Inter will have given them a lift.

Southampton have won their last 6 matches against Hull in all competitions and have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 away matches against the Tigers. It’s hard to make a case for the home side on recent displays and as long as Saints have no European hangover, they should do a professional job.
