Watford vs Leicester City Preview

Watford could be without goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes after he limped off against Liverpool and Costel Pantilimon is ready to deputise. Jose Holebas is suspended for this match after picking up his fifth booking of the season, allowing Juan Zuniga a rare start at left-back. Isaac Success and Sebastian Prödl are nearing full fitness but are unlikely to feature here.

Leicester are also without their number 1 stopper, as Kasper Schmeichel continues to recover from hand surgery. Nampalys Mendy is a long-term absentee after picking up a knee injury earlier in the campaign. Danny Drinkwater and Demarai Gray have fitness to prove after picking up injuries on international duty.

Watford vs Leicester City Prediction

Watford’s capitulation against Liverpool came as a pretty big shock, considering the Hornets had kept 3 successive clean sheets prior to that. They ground out a 0-1 win away to Middlesbrough before drawing 0-0 away to Swansea and winning 1-0 at home to Hull City. Walter Mazzarri’s men will be desperate to atone for that horror show at Anfield and are expected to be much more difficult to break down here.

Leicester are 3 points behind Watford in the table and their Premier League form could be suffering with the added responsibility of playing in Europe. They come into this without a win in 3, after drawing 1-1 away at Tottenham Hotspur and Fc Kobenhavn prior to the loss against West Brom. It’s now seven league games without a win on the road for the Foxes, a run which stretches back to last season.

Given how well Liverpool have been playing, it’s best to put a line through Watford’s capitulation. Looking at the three games before that, they’ve tended to be low-scoring with Watford looking for something on the break. Leicester play attacking football and could easily fall into the trap, so I’m predicting a narrow 1-0 win to the hosts.
