Liverpool take on Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why a home win is the betting tip at Anfield. Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw away to Southampton last weekend and will be keen to get back in the winning groove. Meanwhile, Sunderland beat fellow relegation candidates Hull City 3-0 at home.

Liverpool vs Sunderland Preview

Liverpool will hope that key player Philippe Coutinho is over his hamstring scare but Adam Lallana will miss the visit of Sunderland. Danny Ings, Sheyi Ojo and Joe Gomez are injured while Mamadou Sakho is out of favour. Former Black Cat Jordan Henderson will pull the strings in midfield for the hosts.

Sunderland will be without Papy Djilobodji who was sent off in the win over Hull. John O’Shea should deputise in central defence while Jan Kirchhoff and Sebastian Larsson are nearing a return to first team action. Jason Denayer is doubtful with a hamstring complaint, along with both Jack Rodwell and Vito Mannone who have fitness to prove. Paddy McNair, Fabio Borini and Lee Cattermole are all out injured.

  • Sunderland have won 3 drawn 1 and lost 6 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 2.6 goals and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sunderland have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 1.5 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches

Liverpool vs Sunderland Prediction

Liverpool are undefeated in their last 13 home matches in the Premier League and haven’t lost to Sunderland at Anfield in 14 games. They’ve scored at least twice in 8 of their last 10 home matches and will be looking to get back in the goal scoring groove after being held away to Southampton.

Sunderland’s back-to-back wins over Bournemouth and Hull have given them a glimmer of hope after a terrible start to the season. They’re still in the relegation zone and this match will be a lot tougher for them. Liverpool are a free-scoring side (see video of their last home match above) and the Black Cats haven’t kept a clean sheet on the road in 8 Premier League outings.

Historically, Sunderland don’t have a great record against Liverpool, particularly at Anfield. They managed to scrape a 2-2 draw in this fixture last season but I’d be stunned if they got anything this time around. The Reds will win this comfortably and can bag a few goals too.
