Serie A preview – AC Milan vs Carpi prediction.

Centre-forward Luiz Adriano has been suffering from flu which means Mario Balotelli should continue to partner Carlos Bacca for AC Milan when they entertain Carpi on Thursday. The three strikers have been left vying for places since Mbaye Niang was ruled out for the season with ankle and shoulder injuries. Central midfielder Juraj Kucka will serve a one-match suspension and could be replaced by Andrea Poli who will be keen impress new manager, Cristian Brocchi.

Carpi manager Fabrizio Castori is forced into changing the side that defeated Genoa 4-1 at the weekend due to the suspension of left-back Riccardo Gagliolo. Centre-back Fabrizio Poli has covered the position in the past which leaves the manager with a choice of captain Cristian Zaccardo or Emanuele Suagher for a central role as Igor Bubnjic is out for the season.

Possible Line-ups

AC Milan 4-3-1-2 formation: Donnarumma; Abate, Alex, Romagnoli, Antonelli ;Poli, Montolivo, Bertolacci; Bonaventura; Bacca, Balotelli

Carpi 4-4-1-1 formation: Belec; Letizia; Suagher, Romagnoli, Poli; Pasciuti, Bianco, Cofie, Gaudio; Lollo; Mbakogu

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Carpi have scored an average of 1.1 goals and conceded an average of 1.2 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of AC Milan’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Carpi’s previous 10 matches

Prediction

Brocchi got his managerial career off to a successful start when Milan ended a winless run of five games with a 1-0 victory at Sampdoria on Sunday. The 2-1 defeat to Juventus on April 9 was the first home defeat in seven games and the first time Milan had conceded more than one goal in a league game at San Siro since losing to Napoli in October. Carpi are fighting for survival and Saturday’s victory was their third in the last five games. It followed successive defeats at home to Sassuolo (3-1) and away to Chievo (1-0). Castori’s side has only won twice away from home in the league this season, winning 2-1 at bottom-of-the-league Verona on March 20 and 2-1 at Genoa in November. Despite recording their biggest win of the season on Saturday it is probably too much to expect Carpi to overcome their travel sickness at San Siro where they previously lost to Milan in the cup.
