Arsenal vs Stoke Preview

Arsenal, after suffering five defeats in six matches across all competitions, have won their last three matches. Arsenal fans will be disappointed with their side’s league position currently. Sitting in 6th place and 13 points off a Champions League spot, Wenger’s hopes of qualifying for a place with Europe’s elite next season now rests solely on how his team progresses in the years Europa League. They’re through to the quarter-finals and will host CSKA Moscow next week in the first leg. That competition may be a priority for Wenger but he’ll want to keep his place in 6th position in the league and pick up points to keep the pressure on Chelsea in 5th place who are currently eight points ahead with eight games remaining.

After three consecutive league defeats to Totten, Man City and Brighton, Arsenal bounced back with a 3-0 win at home to Watford earlier in the month. They seem to have gotten a bit of rhythm back in their play and they’ll be confident of making it two consecutive wins on Sunday against a Stoke side which is struggling at the bottom of the table.

Alexandre Lacazette is set to make a return to the squad but will likely start on the bench with Aubameyang getting the nod ahead of him. Jack Wilshere is a big doubt due to a knee injury which saw him withdraw from England’s international friendlies against the Netherlands and Italy over the past week. Sead Kolasinac is a victim of international duty having picked up an injury in Bosnia’s 0-0 draw against Senegal earlier in the week.

Stoke are having a tough time at the moment and have only picked up one win in their last thirteen matches. Their poor run of form has seen them drop into the bottom three and currently sit second bottom on 27 points and three points from safety. They’re in real danger of being a Championship club next season and a trip to the Emirates is not what they need given they host Tottenham next week at the Bet365 Stadium and visit Anfield for a tough fixture next month.

Three draws were recently followed by two defeats to league-leaders Manchester City and Everton and Paul Lambert’s side have now only found the next four times in their last seven games. It’s not hard to see why Arsenal are big favourites here given that Stoke have the second worst away record in the league having picked up just 8 points from a possible 45 on their travels. They have averaged less than a goal a game during those matches and it’s difficult to see them outscoring the hosts on Sunday.

Charlie Adam received a red card in Stokes 2-1 defeat to Everton before the international break and so will be suspended for Sunday’s game while Lee Grant, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Kevin Wimmer and Stephen Ireland all remain out for Lambert’s side.

Arsenal vs Stoke Predictions

Stoke are struggling to pick up points and with some tough fixtures ahead, they’re running out of time. Arsenal have started to find a bit of form again after a poor run of results and we can see them winning this match comfortably. With Stoke’s poor away record and their lack of goals, we expect the hosts to win this game to nil.

Arsenal had a comfortable win over Stoke in this fixture last season. The Gunners came back from a goal down to win the match 3-1 at the Emirates.

Stoke have the upper hand so far this season by beating Arsenal 1-0 at the bet365 Stadium back in August. A goal early in the second half from Jese Rodriguez was all that separated the sides and handed three points to the hosts.
