Blackburn Rovers vs Blackpool Preview

Blackburn, who top the League One table, welcome Blackpool to Ewood Park on Saturday in a bid to extend their lead and increase their chances of playing in the Championship next season. After winning four consecutive games, Blackburn were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Wigan last weekend which manager Tony Mowbray would have been happy with given that Wigan look to be the only team who are capable of foiling their plans of promotion.

Blackburn currently have the best offensive record in League One and have averaged 2.2 goals scored per game from their last 5 matches. They have only not managed to find the net in one of their last sixteen matches at Ewood Park and will be confident of getting on the scoresheet again on Saturday. However, they haven’t been as tight at the back compared to promotion rivals Shrewsbury and Wigan and have leaked goals against a number of lower-table sides.  Although Mowbray will be content with the point last weekend against Wigan, he’ll be disappointed his side didn’t take all three points from the game after going 2-0 up within 17 minutes. He’ll be looking for a more solid display from his side against Blackpool to avoid a nervy end to the season.

Harry Chapman is the only player out for Blackburn, giving Tony Mowbray a near-full-strength squad to choose from. Peter Whittingham seems to have recovered from a hamstring injury and will hope for a return to the starting XI.

Blackpool have hit a good run of form which has seen them undefeated in their last five games, picking up two wins and three draws, including an impressive 2-0 victory over third-placed Wigan three weeks ago. Those points have helped Gary Bowyer’s side climb to 17th in the table and five points clear of the relegation zone. Safety isn’t yet secured for the Seasiders though and they need to keep their good run going in order to not get caught up in the relegation battle. They’ve won their last two on the road without conceding but Blackburn’s attacking force will prove to be a bigger test for their back four on Saturday.

Gary Bowyer has no new injury concerns within his side and Mark Cullen and Jim McAlister are the only two players who remain out with long-term injuries.

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Blackpool have scored an average of 1 goal and conceded an average of 0.8 goals per game

Blackburn Rovers vs Blackpool Prediction

Both sides come into this game in good form but it is Blackburn who have shown the most threat in front of goal. Blackpool will likely try and keep it tight and hope to repeat their last two results on the raod against Portsmouth and Wigan but they’ll find it hard against a side which has found the net 67 time so far this season.

Blackburn are unbeaten in their last 15 matches at Ewood Park and we can’t see them giving up that record on Saturday. Expect goals from Blackburn as usual with the away side possibly grabbing one as a consolation.
