FA Cup football tips – Blackburn vs Liverpool prediction.

Under pressure Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers must once again do without suspended duo Martin Skrtel and Steven Gerrard for the FA Cup quarter-final replay at Blackburn Rovers. The loss of Skrtel will certainly be a bigger blow than that of Gerrard, especially with Emre Can also on the sidelines having been sent off against Arsenal, which could mean a starting place for Dejan Lovren at the back. Daniel Sturridge could also make a return to the team, with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho playing off the England striker.

Having scored his 17th goal of the season at Leeds on the weekend, striker Jordan Rhodes is expected to lead the line for Blackburn Rovers. With a number of Premier League clubs reportedly interested in the striker, this match could prove to be the perfect shop window. However, Blackburn will have a number of players missing for this match, with Rudy Gestede, Chris Brown, Simon Eastwood and Chris Taylor all struggling to make the game due to fitness problems. Gary Bowyer will also have to do without Craig Conway, Grant Hanley, Josh King and David Dunn plus the ineligible Paul Taylor, David Raya, John O’Sullivan and Jay Spearing.

  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Blackburn have scored an average of 1.3 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game.
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Liverpool have scored an average of 1.2 goals and conceded an average of 0.9 goals per game.
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Blackburn’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 4 of Liverpool’s previous 10 matches.
  • The last time these two teams met at Ewood Park was in the Premier League back in 2012, liverpool won 3-2.

With Blackburn’s recent form, despite the excellent 3-0 win away to Leeds, meaning that promotion is almost gone for this season, plus Liverpool’s run of poor results making a top four place very difficult, this match is now huge for both teams.

Two recent home defeats against Brentford and Brighton, highlight how Blackburn have been struggling of late but they will not be expected to go out and attack Liverpool. If Blackburn take a similar approach to the game at Anfield, they could continue to frustrate Liverpool and prey on their confidence shot defence.

Liverpool have lost two huge games in a row and can not afford to lose a third. Brendan Rodgers and his players are now under huge pressure to bring home the FA Cup this season but previous form suggests they do not always cope with it well. If Blackburn can keep that game at 0-0 for as long as possible, they could cause another FA Cup shock in what promises to be a closely fought match.
