Automatic promotion to The Championship is the goal for Blackburn Rovers this season and last weeks 2-0 defeat away to Plymouth hindered those plans slightly. Blackburn have now slipped into third place in League One, two points behind second-placed Shrewsbury and four points behind league-leaders Wigan. The defeat ended a 17-league-game unbeaten streak and Blackburn manager, Tony Mowbray will be annoyed they now have to play catchup.
Blackburn captain Charlie Mulgrew is not certain to play after picking up an ankle injury which kept him out of the 2-0 defeat at Plymouth last weekend.
Oldham picked up three vital points last weekend against an out-of-form Bradford side which will give them a boost ahead of Saturdays game. Following Oldham’s meeting with Blackburn, they have consecutive fixtures against Milton Keynes and Rochdale who sit one and two places below them in the league. Oldham manager Richie Wellens knows that if his side can pick up points on Saturday against Blackburn then it would give them some breathing space ahead of the following two important fixtures. A win on Saturday and against their two relegation rivals could see Oldham around mid-table by the end of February and a comfortable distance away from the relegation zone.
Rob Hunt hasn’t recovered from a hamstring yet and will likely not travel. Eoin Doyle will also be out of the squad due to a blood clot after returning from a loan spell at Preston.
