Borussia Dortmund vs Stuttgart Preview

Borussia Dortmund will still be reeling from their 6-0 defeat away to Bayern Munich last week. They were 5-0 down after just 45 minutes and the players and staff will feel like they have to restore some pride. The fans will be expecting to see a response.

In terms of the team news, Ömer Toprak returns to the squad from a muscle injury and could replace Sokratis at centre-back. Julian Weigl and Gonzalo Castro will be competing for a spot in defensive midfield. Marco Reus will likely return to the starting XI as well, with Mario Götze probably settling for a spot on the bench.

Stuttgart have been in fantastic form recently and haven’t actually lost since 9 games ago. The change in manager has really done the trick and has seen the club rocket up the table. Last week was a 1-1 draw against bottom club Hamburg, so they will need to be better this week.

Timo Baumgartl could return to the Stuttgart team from a concussion, but will more than likely have to settle for a spot on the bench for now. Andreas Beck will return from a one-match ban to start at right-back, meaning Benjamin Pavard will go back to the centre and Marcin Kaminski is expected to drop to the bench. Chadrac Akolo and Anastasios Donis are hoping to be in the starting 11 too.

Borussia Dortmund vs Stuttgart Prediction

Borussia Dortmund had gone 12 Bundesliga matches without losing under new manager Peter Stöger, but then they ran into Bayern Munich last weekend and that may have shattered their confidence. Dortmund will probably be looking over their shoulders now, as they are only three points ahead of Leverkusen and Frankfurt in fifth and sixth.

Dortmund really need to finish in a Champions League qualification place which would be a decent end to a really tough season that has seen them fail in European and domestic action.

Stuttgart are actually still unbeaten under their new manager Tayfun Korkut, who has managed to claim five wins and three draws from his first eight league games as the boss. Stuttgart are a good defensive unit and can dangerous up front at times. The front two of Gomez and Ginczek will cause Dortmund problems.

This should be a really close game and the tip is for Stuttgart to actually claim a surprise draw in this one.
