Bristol City started the season in blistering form, losing just one of their first 13 league matches. However, 2018 hasn’t been kind to Lee Johnson and his team as Bristol have only managed one victory in their last 9 games in all competitions. Even more worrying is that The Robins lost 7 of those 9 games. This recent dip in form has seen Bristol slide down into sixth place in the Championship and if they don’t pick up points on Saturday, they are in danger of falling out of the play-off zone and being replaced by Preston.
Bristol City are still without Gary O’Neil, Callum O’Dowda, Frank Fielding, Jens Hegeler and Eros Pisano through injury. Nathan Baker will also miss the game through suspension.
Sunderland have had a horrid season. From being a Premier League club last term, they are in real danger of ending up in League One unless manager Chris Coleman can get something out of his players quickly. Coleman reinforced his side with the signings of forward Ashley Fletcher, midfielder Ovie Ejaria and goalkeeper Lee Camp in the January transfer window. However, after starting in a winnable game against Ipswich last weekend, the new arrivals failed to make enough of an impact for the side to get anything out of the game and it was once again defensive frailties which cost Sunderland vital points.
Sunderland are currently second bottom and two points from safety. Scoring just four goals and conceding ten in the last ten games, it is crucial that their defence improves in order for them to take away at least a point on Saturday.
Jonathan Williams, Marc Wilson, Duncan Watmore and James Vaughan are all injured for Sunderland. Lamine Kone is a possibility after recovering from a knee injury and may replace Billy Jones at the back.
