Burnley vs Chelsea Preview

Burnley will leapfrog Arsenal into the sixth place in the Premier League if they beat Chelsea and we can’t bet against them given their current form.

Sean Dyche has done a remarkable job in the face of a string injuries which has tested the strength of the squad this season. Jonathan Walters, Robbie Brady and Ben Mee remain on the injured list, and while Scott Arfield and Georges-Kevin Nkoudo are close to a return, the midfield duo are doubtful to be ready for the visit of Chelsea.

Sam Vokes has found himself third choice behind Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes up front and may have to continue to be patient as Dyche has no reason to change a winning formula.

Chelsea striker Oliver Giroud demands a place in the Chelsea starting eleven following his match-winning substitution at the weekend. Antonio Conte is looking ahead to the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday and is likely to rest a few players. Willian, Edin Hazard, N’Golo Kante and Alvaro Morato are candidates for the bench which could mean starts for Pedro, Barkley, Bakayoko and Emerson.

Burnley vs Chelsea Prediction

Burnley’s great start began to falter in December but Dyche’s side kept plugging away to pick up six points from an eleven game winless run. Their plucky attitude has paid dividends and confidence is now sky high at Turf Moor as the Clarets are on a run of five consecutive victories in the league.

Home form had been a concern but wins against Everton and Leicester in the last two games at Turf Moor have laid that bogey to rest and Dyche’s side will relish the visit of Chelsea on Thursday.

Burnley are seventh in the league, two points behind Arsenal who lost to Newcastle at the weekend, and can leapfrog the Gunners with victory against Chelsea. Burnley have scored at least two goals in the last five. Woods has scored five times on the winning streak and while Barnes has scored three, he’s landed first goalscorer bets on each occasion.

Chelsea came from two behind to win 3-2 at Southampton on Saturday and can count themselves fortunate for some slack defending from the Saints. Conte’s men had previously drawn against West Ham and lost 3-1 to Tottenham in two home games and appear to be concentrating efforts on the FA Cup.

Top scorers Edin Hazard (12) and Alvaro Morata (11) may not start on Thursday but Olivier Giroud will be all out to stake a claim for Sunday’s cup semi if given the chance. The former Arsenal striker came off the bench to score twice as Chelsea hit three in eight minutes to take the points at St Mary’s and could be Chelsea’s best goalscorer option against a physical Burnley outfit.

Burnley can capitalise on their great recent form to beat a Chelsea side more focused on the weekend ahead.
