Second placed Bury welcome League 1 leaders Scunthorpe to Gigg Lane on Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why Scunthorpe are the betting tip to claim three points in this top of the table clash.

Bury v Scunthorpe Preview

Bury are enjoying a winning run at the moment and are just a single point behind Sunthorpe. The visitors are on a long unbeaten run themselves and got back to winning ways last time out after back-to-back draws.

Kean Bryan replaced the injured Craig Jones at MK Dons and could start in defence if he doesn’t make it back in time. Other than that,David Flitcroft is unlikely to alter the side that won in convincing style through the week. James Vaughan was at the double to take his tally to 5 goals in 5 League 1 appearances, so is a shoe-in up front.

Scott Wiseman replaced Jordan Clarke at the interval last time out and  will be pushing for a starting berth in defence. Graham Alexander will be pleased that his side got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion and is unlikely to make any drastic changes to the XI that started at Walsall. Josh Morris bagged a hat-trick and is likely to be given a free-role once more, making him a big danger for Scunthorpe.

 Bury v Scunthorpe Prediction

The Shakers have been ticking along nicely with 5 straight league wins following their success over Morecambe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. They’ve recently enjoyed 2-1 wins away to Swindon and at home to Chesterfield, before easing to a 1-3 triumph away at MK Dons through the week.

Bury’s form looks impressive on paper but four of their last five wins have come against sides outside the top 10 in the table. Granted, they can only play who is in front of them but this weekend will be a true test of their credentials.

The Iron are unbeaten in 6 matches and have arguably had a tougher set of fixtures during that period. Charlton came to Glanford Park and basically camped in their own half to earn a 0-0 draw but the point earned from a 2-2 thriller with promotion chasing Sheffield United is a good result in the grand scheme of things.

Scunthorpe got back in the winning groove with a 1-4 rout away to Walsall and will be keen to get a sequence of results going to consolidate top spot, especially with a trio of home games following this encounter. We should be in for a cracking contest here and while it’s doubtful that either side will run away with it, there should be a few goals too.
