Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Preview

Chelsea have suffered back-to-back defeats to the hands of Manchester United and Manchester City which has left them in 5th place in the league and 5 points off Tottenham who currently occupy the last Champions League spot. Antonio Conte has had a mixed season with Chelsea and overall pretty poor considering the current champions are a hefty 25 points adrift of league-leaders Man City. Their current form is the worst it has been in a long time, losing four of their last five league games and picking up points only against bottom of the table West Brom. Conte will be hoping to pick up maximum points against Palace to keep the pressure on Tottenham who have their Champions League clash against Juventus on Wednesday night from which some players may be drained from going into their clash with Bournemouth on Sunday.

Chelsea have only managed to beat Crystal Palace twice from their last five meetings and given the visitors came close to taking points from Manchester United on Monday night, it may prove to be another tricky game.

Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ethan Ampadu and David Luiz will all miss the game through injury while Ross Barkley and N’Golo Kante are both unlikely to be fit. Given Chelsea’s recent results, Conte could look to bring Alvaro Morata back into the starting XI in replace of Pedro.

Crystal Palace had three points in their hands on Monday evening when they hosted Manchester United. Goals in either half from Andros Townsend and Patrick van Aanholt gave them a two-goal lead before Mourinho’s men fought their way back with goals from Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku and then took all three points with a superb injury-time strike from Nemanja Matić. Roy Hodgson will be bitterly disappointed that his side couldn’t hold on to a win which would have taken them out of the relegation zone and up to 15th in the table. Instead, they face another tough challenge which could leave them deeper in the bottom three should Stoke take away something from their game against Manchester City on Monday night.

Palace are now six games without a win and have found the net just nine times on the road this season. Hodgson’s side face Liverpool in two weeks time and so avoiding defeat on Saturday is essential to keep moral up and get some points on the board.

Roy Hodgson has a number of injury concerns with Scott Dann, Wilfried Zaha, Connor Wickham, Jason Puncheon, Bakary Sako, Julian Speroni, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Mamadou Sakho and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all sidelined. Joel Ward and Yohan Cabaye are also doubts adding to Hodgson’s worries.

Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Predictions

Crystal Palace almost spung a shock result against Manchester United on Monday but were unable to keep their composure. They face another tough game this week and despite Chelsea also being in poor form, we can’t see the visitors taking anything away from Stamford Bridge. Hodgson has a number of players out through injury which may mean he sets his side up defensively. This could potentially backfire should Chelsea find an early goal from which there may be no coming back from.

We’re expecting Chelsea to get back to winning ways on Saturday and keep their hopes alive of securing a Champions League spot by picking up three points.
