Crystal Palace vs Brighton Preview

Crystal Palace are keen to improve their predicament which finds Roy Hodgson’s side three points above a relegation place with five games to play. The Eagles run in includes games against the two bottom clubs who’ll be fighting for their lives (or pride at the very least) and Hodgson will want his men to get the necessary points on the board as soon possible.

Injures have plagued Palace throughout the season and Hodgson is without Joel Ward, Jeffrey Schlupp and Christian Benteke who are the latest doubts for the visit of Brighton. The manager could name the same eleven that lined up against Bournemouth last weekend which would see Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend paired up front.

Chris Hughton has done an admirable job in keeping Brighton out of the drop zone but his team still has work to do to ensure another season in the top flight. The Seagulls are seven points above Southampton in 17th and three points will almost certainly ensure survival.

Davy Proper is suspended for the trip to Palace after seeing red in the 1-1 draw with Huddersfield last Saturday. Beram Kayal and Jurgen Locadia are options to replace Proper in midfield while winger Anthony Knockaert is eligible after serving a three-match ban for his sending off against Everton.

Crystal Palace vs Brighton Prediction

There is a long and bitter rivalry between Palace and Brighton, and the Seagulls would love nothing more than to put a nail into the Eagles’ Premier League coffin. However, Brighton cannot afford to relax and will be quite happy to go home with a point on Saturday.

Palace have come through a tough run of fixtures, losing as many expected against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham. Amidst those fixtures, Palace picked up a win at Huddersfield and a draw at Bournemouth so will have high hopes of gaining three points from the visit of 13th placed Brighton.

The Eagles had a dreadful start to the season but since October, have not lost at home to a team outside the top six. They’ve defeated Chelsea, Stoke, Watford and Burnley at Selhurst Park and despite recent losses are playing as well as at any stage of this campaign.

Luka Milivojevic has emerged as Palace’s dangerman. The attacking midfielder is the club’s leading scorer with 10 goals so far this season and has paid off first goalscorer bets eight times.

Brighton have picked up one point from their last four games and have struggled for most of the season to produce positive results away from home. They managed back to back victories at West Ham and Swansea in October/November and have otherwise managed four draws on the road.

Brighton have only scored twice in the last nine away games and we can see Palace winning this match to nil.
