Derby County lock horns with Leeds United in the Championship this Saturday. Read the match predictions to find out why Leeds are the betting tip to get three points at the iPro Stadium.

Derby vs Leeds Preview

Derby were done by a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw away at Reading before the international break and that was to be Nigel Pearson’s final game in charge. They sit 20th in the table, 6 points behind 11th-placed Leeds who won 2-1 at home to Barnsley last time out.

Steve McLaren is back in familiar surroundings but hasn’t had much time to work with the squad. Whether he keeps faith in Matěj Vydra remains to be seen, as he has only scored twice this season. Weimann and Bent are other options in attack while Tom Ince and Will Hughes are likely to be key to his plans going forward.

Leeds boss Garry Monk has overseen an upturn in results and will, therefore, be reluctant to alter his side. Loanee Pablo Hernandez bagged his second goal of the season against Barnsley and will orchestrate in the midfield and the away supporters will be hoping that Chris Wood can continue his good form in front of goal.

Team Predictions Derby vs Leeds

Derby 4-3-3 formation: Carson; Baird, Pearce, Keogh, Christie; Butterfield, Johnson, Hughes; Anya, Bent, Ince

Leeds 4-2-3-1 formation: Green; Taylor, Jansson, Bartley, Ayling; Phillips, O’Kane; Dallas, Hernandez, Sacko; Wood

Derby vs Leeds Prediction

Derby’s 1-2 loss at home to Blackburn extended their winless streak to a sixth game but Pearson was given a reprieve when they stopped the rot with a 0-2 success away to Cardiff. Things looked to be going their way until victory slipped through their fingers in the draw at Reading and this marks a fresh start for the Rams.

Leeds have been grinding out the wins and that was certainly the case in their 1-0 triumph over Ipswich. They’ve occasionally struggled for goals on the road and that was their undoing in a 1-0 loss at Bristol City. However, they were back in the winning groove against Barnsley last time and go into this match having won 5 of the last 6.

Steve McLaren’s arrival has divided opinion but he’ll be able to get up to speed fairly quickly having managed at Derby previously. In spite of this, it will take time for his methods to bear fruit and I can see the hosts struggling again.

Neither side has been banging the goals in and I don’t think this will be overly entertaining. Derby have failed to score in 5 of their last 10 matches and I’m tipping Leeds to edge a narrow victory here.
