La Liga preview – Espanyol vs Celta Vigo prediction.

Espanyol could go unchanged on Tuesday despite losing at Levante at the weekend. Centre-forward Felipe Caicedo was taken off for tactical reasons on Saturday and should keep his place ahead of Gerrard Moreno. Ruben Duarte played the full 90 minutes after shaking off a knock on the knee and is expected to resume at full back. Anaitz Arbilla is the only player on the injured list and is not expected to return this season.

Claudio Beauvue suffered an Achilles tendon injury against Real Betis on Saturday which rules out the Celta Vigo winger until October. Attacking midfielder Daniel Wass was substituted in the first half after spraining his ankle and is doubtful for the trip to Barcelona. The captain, Hugo Mallo, remains sidelined with a hamstring injury while Andreu Fontas and Marcello Diaz are out for the season.

Prediction

Espanyol have lost their last two games leaving Constantin Galca’s side with one point from the last three games. The last game at Power8 Stadium ended with Atletico Madrid winning 3-1 but Espanyol had won the two previous home games, 2-1 v Athletic Club and 2-1 v Rayo Vallecano. Espanyol have only kept one clean sheet in the last seven home games.   Celta Vigo were hammered 7-1 by Real Madrid early last month but have kept their Europa League qualification hopes alive by going unbeaten in five subsequent games. The 1-1 draw at home to Real Betis on Saturday allowed Athletic Bilbao to go above them to fifth in the table but they maintain a four-point advantage over seventh-placed Sevilla. Celta Vigo have mostly fared well away from home in the past two months, winning three of four on the road and have won eight away games in total this season, more than any other team outside of the top three. This remains an important fixture for both teams and could end up with Espanyol and Celta Vigo sharing the points.
