Spanish La Liga preview – Espanyol vs Valencia prediction

The hosts will miss Anaitz Arbilla through injury once again while Fuentes will all the more likely to retain his place over Ruben Duarte at left back. They come on the back of a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad and should continue the same system. Enzo Roco should continue in defence after netting a goal.

The visitors will have Antonio Barragan suspended for the match and young left back Joao Cancelo appears to have done enough to impress Nuno. Santi Mina’s place in the starting XI should be under threat from Sofiane Fehouli. Enzo Perez could also come into the mix.

Possible Line-ups

Espanyol: 4-2-3-1 formation: Pau; Fuentes, Gonzalez, Roco, Arbilla; Sanchez, Diop; Alvarez, Asensio, Perez; Moreno

Valencia: 4-3-3 formation: Jaume; Gaya, Mustafi, Abdennour, Cancelo; Parejo, Fuego, Gomes; Piatti, Negredo, Feghouli

Statistics

  • Valencia is undefeated in their last 10 matches in La Liga
  • Espanyol conceded at least 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches in La Liga
  • Over 2.5 goals in 11 of the last 12 matches between these sides in all competitions
  • Under 2.5 goals scored in Valencia’s last 4 games in La Liga

Prediction

The home side comes on the back of a 3-2 win over Real Sociedad and would love to gain momentum. The two comprehensive defeats at the hands of Villarreal and Real Madrid could be put to bed by another good performance against Valencia. Helping them is the fact that the visitors are in the midst of a bad run.

Valencia is under some pressure to get back on track after an underwhelming start. They could grab just one win which was an unconvincing 1-0 win against Sporting Gijon. With the two teams on same points, this could be a game that is settled by a single goal.

Valencia could be unbeaten in their last five away games in La Liga. Also, Espanyol were thrashed 6-0 in their last home game. However, the Catalonian side could just edge out the visitors.
