Premier League football tips – Everton vs Sunderland prediction

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is still without Bryan Oviedo, Tony Hibbert and Darron Gibson for the visit of Sunderland. Steven Pienaar is still struggling with a muscle injury but may be fit enough to return to the bench. After being left out against Aston Villa, Ross Barkely will probably return to the team.

Emanuele Giaccherini and Ricardo Alvarez are the only definite absentees for Sunderland, with John O’Shea likely to be fit following a head injury. Wes Brown and Steven Fletcher are also nursing injuries and it will be touch and go as to whether they will feature. Given last weeks win over Southampton, Dick Advocaat is unlikely to make many changes.

Probable Line-ups

Everton 4-2-3-1 formation: Howard; Baines, Jagielka, Stones, Coleman; Barry, McCarthy; Mirallas, Barkley, Lennon; Lukaku

Sunderland: 4-3-3 formation: Pantilimon; Jones, Coates, O’Shea, Aanholt; Larsson, Catermole, Gomez; Defoe, Graham, Wickham

  • Everton have won 6, drawn 1 and lost 3 of their last 10 matches
  • Sunderland have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 5 of their last 10 matches
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Everton have scored an average of 1.7 goals and conceded an average of 1.3 goals per game
  • Over the course of their previous 10 matches, Sunderland have scored an average of 0.6 goals and conceded an average of 1.6 goals per game
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 6 of Everton’s previous 10 matches
  • There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 3 of Sunderland’s previous 10 matches
  • The reverse fixture finished 1-1 at the Stadium of Light

Everton followed up a great result against Manchester United with a disappointing defeat away to Aston Villa last week. With little to play for, Roberto Martinez can not allow his team to pick the games in which they want to perform and will have to motivate his men ahead of this one. Form at Goodison has been excellent of late, undefeated in their last 8 Premier League games, conceding just 3 goals in the process.

Considering their urgent needs for points, a trip to fortress Goodison is the last thing Sunderland need right now. A good win over Southampton last week, has given Advocaat’s team a good chance of avoiding relegation but away form in the Premier League has been poor, failing to win any of their last 8 games away from the Stadium of Light.

If the Everton that played against Manchester United turns up, Sunderland could be in for a difficult afternoon.

We say: Everton and under 2.5 goals at 13/5 with Bet365
