Ground conditions are likely to prove all-important for this Saturday’s Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock which will factor into choosing this week’s free racing tip. The Henry Candy-trained top sprinter Limato is an unlikely starter unless the word firm appears in the going description at the weekend while stablemate Twilight Son requires plenty of cut in the ground if he is to take his chance.

Despite most of the country enjoying fine weather on Bank Holiday Monday, the current going at the Lancashire venue is good to soft and with bits and pieces of rain forecast during the week it is difficult to predict how things will pan out in four day’s time.

Muthmir failed by less than a length to land the horse racing tip at Beverley on Saturday despite being supported from the advised 9/2 to 2/1. We are looking to recover if the current going remains the same at Haydock this weekend.

One horse who has been in cracking form this season on ground ranging from soft to good to firm is the David O'Meara inmate Suedois who looks the value in the Haydock Sprint Cup ante-post market at the 14-1 generally available. Second on his first start for O'Meara at Doncaster back in April, a position the son of Le Havre filled once again on his next start behind Magical Memory in the Duke Of York Stakes on the Knavesmire. The five-year-old improved upon that run when runner-up once again, this time when finding only Limato too good in Newmarket's Group 1 July Cup. That race was run on quick ground, so as long as there is cut in the ground on this occasion Suedois can turn the tables on the winner (if he is allowed to take his chance) and confirm headquarters form with the third Quiet Reflection and seventh Magical Memory, both of whom are single-figure prices for the six-furlong contest. Not beaten far on his most recent start at Deauville where possibly finding the extra half a furlong a disadvantage, Suedois can finally land a big prize with conditions likely to prove ideal.
