Gillingham vs Blackburn Preview
Gillingham host the current League One leaders on Saturday as they battle to pick up points to secure a place in the place-offs.
Steve Lovell’s side sit 11th in League One and are still in with a chance of a play off spot being seven points adrift of 6th placed Peterborough. Bradford, who sit a place above them, do have two games in hand and Charlton in 8th have one in hand. However, with ten games remaining, there is still time to close that gap and keep their dreams alive of playing in the Championship next season.
Gillingham are unbeaten in their last seven games at home but four of those have been draws, including their last two against Peterborough and Walsall. The Gills have actually picked up more points on their travels than they have done on home turf where they have collected just 21 points from a possible 51. They’ll be looking to keep things tight at the back against the leagues top scorers and they’ll be confident they can restrain the visitors given that they have only conceded eight goals at Priestfield Stadium since October.
Gillingham will be without Alex Lacey, Billy Bingham and Aaron Morris who remain injured. Bradley Garmston and Connor Ogilvie missed the 3-1 win against Portsmouth last weekend but are due to return to the squad after making a recovery.
Blackburn top Legaue One and are battling to gain points to return to the Championship next season. They’re five points clear of second-placed Shrewsbury and eight points ahead of third-placed Wigan. However, Shewsbury have two games in hand and Wigan four, meaning that automatic promotion is not in their hands and all Tony Mowbray and his side can do is keep winning games and hope their rivals slip up along the way. Shrewsbury have a tricky game against Scunthorpe on Saturday and so this is an excellent chance for Blackburn to extend their lead at the top and keep the pressure on the other two.
Blackburn have now won five and drawn two of their last seven games and have only lost once on the road in their last twelve. They head into Saturday’s fixture in excellent form and will be confident of extending their lead at the top of the table.
Midfielder Harry Chapman is the only player out for Blackburn meaning Tony Mowbray has a near fully fit squad to choose from.

Gillingham vs Blackburn Predictions
Gillingham have only won one of their last four games but are undefeated at home in their last nine in the league. They’ve proved tough to beat but Blackburn have scored at least two goals in their last seven league matches and will be confident of finding the net. We’re expecting to see goals from both sides and with the winning streak Blackburn are on, they may have just too much going forward for the hosts to handle. There have been over 2.5 goals in six of Blackburn’s last seven games and so there is value there. We predict the visitors to take home all three points with a 2-1 victory.
